What are the age limits?

You MUST be 18 before you get a tattoo. That is the legal age. It makes no difference if you have parental consent, or not. You must bring photo ID with you, as you will be asked for it when you fill out the consent form. Please take it as a compliment, if you are asked for ID and you are over 18.   There are also age limits for certain piercings.  If you need more information please send a facebook message or email us.
Our youngest limit currently is for lobe piercings and they must be 10 years or age or older and up with a parent present and consent.

Are you a licensed tattoo & piercing studio?

Yes, we certainly are. Our certificates are plainly in view on our walls, however, any concerns, please feel free to contact Shetland Island Council’s health and hygiene office.
Sheila, our resident tattooist, has had her own licensed studio since 2010.
Russell was Sheila's apprentice.
Mark was an apprentice in the studio to Richard Morel (master piercer) who has worked in and owned, various licensed piercing studios all over the world, since 1994 and is recognized worldwide. Mark obtained his certificate from Richard in 2013.
Jeni is the studios Manager and also Mark piercing apprentice.
Shannon is fully trained in Microblading to advanced level.  She has trained in the Beauty Academy and also has received 4 month in house training.
Health and Safety is a priority in our studio. We only use hospital grade cleaning products. Our vacuum autoclave is also hospital grade and is checked regular. We use disposable needles, paper, ink caps, gloves and bags, each and every time. Every needle is used once, then disposed of. Both the safety of our customers and tattooists is paramount. Our tattooists and piercer also have their first aid and blood born pathogens certificates.

How much will it cost?

Costs vary, they depend on the design you want and the area you wish tattooed. We can give you a rough estimated price via email but this price will only be confirmed when you come in for a consultation in person.   We do not give estimates over the phone.

Do I need to bring a design or will you draw something up for me?

We prefer to do custom work although anything you send us can make sure we are in the right direction. You will always know that it is an original when getting a custom piece. If you can take in with you some reference pictures, or rough sketches, to give an idea of what it is you like, that would be helpful. Any sketches, no matter how rough, really do help to give a background into what you want and like. We do many different styles, so we want to make sure you get the best artists for your work. Preferably, you would have an idea of what you wanted, before you see us, as we don’t choose for you. If we get the impression that you aren’t 100% sure, we won’t tattoo you.

How much does a tattoo hurt?

This is a difficult question to answer. Everyone is different with regards to pain. It can depend on a lot of things; e.g. your own personal pain threshold, the area tattooed. Everyone is different. One person’s pain is another’s ‘barely felt it’.
Generally, it is not too bad. If it was, we would never have customers returning time and time again. The best thing you can do, is try to relax. If you are worried, please come in and talk to us. The usual reaction for first timers is, "Is that it?".

Can I take someone with me when I get tattooed?

At times, yes, we will allow you to take one person with you if we feel they will sit still and not cause a distraction to the tattooist. But this is only if we do not have a guest artist up at the time. Your best option would be to ask when you come. Please also be aware that sitting watching someone getting tattooed can be a boring process if not involved. Especially when a long time is involved. Therefore it is usually best you come on your own. We don't bite and will do our best to make you as comfortable as possible.
At no time will we allow anyone under the age of 18 in the actual tattoo studio, and we do not allow children to run around in the shop.

Bookings and Cancellations

We require 72 hours notice if you wish to change your tattoo or wish to change the date.
Booking fees are required with all tattoos and these are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you do not turn up or cancel your appointment, your deposit is gone.
2 working days are required for any major changes to your design.   If you decide to change to a smaller tattoo on the day, you will be charged at the price of the original design you booked.  We don't mind changes but need notice to try and book someone else in.
